Summary : On 5-6 February 2013 an inquest hearing was conducted into the suspected death of Tracy Margaret Marshall. At the conclusion of those proceedings, the then State Coroner on 14 February 2013 stated that he was satisfied beyond all reasonable doubt as to the death of the deceased on or about 21 February 2012, at an unknown location, as a result of unascertainable causes. The State Coroner made an Open Finding as to how the deceased’s death arose.

On 18 May 2014 human skeletal remains were found.  An investigation was commenced and the Coroner found the identity of the skeletal remains where those of Tracy Margaret Marshall.

The Coroner heard evidence in relation to the search which was undertaken to locate the deceased at the time of her disappearance. The Coroner was satisfied the search was severely hampered by the event of an impending cyclone.

The Coroner concluded the deceased left Nickol Bay Hospital in the early hours of 21 February 2011, returned home where she then drove her vehicle until at some stage in her journey she sustained damage to her vehicle. There is evidence the deceased attempted to determine what was wrong with the vehicle before she removed a rope which was located in her vehicle and set off up the ridge to find a suitable hanging point.

The Coroner found the deceased died as a result of ligature compression of the death and death arose by way of Suicide.
