Inquests Process

Related Pages

An Inquest is a public hearing conducted by a Coroner. Only a small number of investigations by the coroner end with an inquest.

In Perth, Inquests are held primarily in the Coroner's Court at Central Law Courts, 501 Hay Street, Perth.

Inquests relating to deaths in the country, may be held at the local Court, or in Perth, depending on the circumstances of the case.

The Coroner is interested in finding out what lessons can be learnt from the death. The Coroner can comment on any matter connected with the death.  For example, the Coroner might recommend changes to hospital procedures or to the design of equipment to make it safer.

The Coroner cannot decide that any person is guilty of an offence or determine any question of civil liability.
