Requesting a Post-Mortem Examination (PME)
Anyone can write to the Coroner asking for a Post-Mortem Examination (PME) to be performed. In order for the Coroner to authorise a post mortem, there must be jurisdiction for the Coroner to investigate the death. If the Coroner refuses your request, you can apply to the Supreme Court for an order that a PME be performed.
You only have 2 clear working days from receiving the Coroner's letter of refusal to appeal to the Supreme Court. This is the case, unless an extension of time has been granted by the Supreme Court.
